Timeline: Winter 2023 / Spring 2024

Statement: The work in this exhibit reflects on Earth’s splendors and explores humanity’s conflicted relationship with nature. We seek solace and healing in nature, retreating to parks and camping in forests, but we also extract resources from nature to support our modern lives, destroying natural environments in the process. In my sculptures I use the familiarity of fashion and household fabrics to transform my subject matter, mirroring this strained relationship with nature. In some of the sculptures, imagery from the natural world is photographically printed directly onto the fabric used to depict human bones and organs—drawing a more pointed relationship between our bodies and the universe. By deepening our appreciation for the many ways in which humanity is knitted into the fabric of nature, I hope to inspire action towards preserving our limited natural resources.
